It appears so, and, thankfully, Cobra Commander doesn’t look as utterly lame as I was expecting (or as terrible as this action figure to the right originally implied). For obvious Ku-Klux-avoiding reasons, the standard white hood has wisely been scrapped altogether; instead, we get him with the gas mask. Slightly better.
He’s being played by the highly-skilled Joseph Gordon-Levitt (picture after the jump), taking a break from his independent run for some brainless, money-pulling blockbuster fun. Can’t blame the guy at all, either.

Joseph Gordon Levitt:
Now, here he is as Cobra, on the top right (It’s got to be him, right? If not, then who else?):
Otherwise, this poster does little to convince me that Stephen Sommers’ G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is going to be total brain-drainer—-it’ll be entertaining, no doubt, but ultimately a waste of two hours that could’ve spent reading some Cormac McCarthy or something. Our next Terminator Salvation, come to think of it, only less serious-minded. Joy.
It should also mentioned that G.I. Joe is clearly packing this summer’s finest two-hit-combo of sexiness: atypically dark-haired Sienna Miller as “Baroness” and Rachel Nichols as “Scarlett.” Here’s to an aftermath of black leather Halloween costumes for the dames.
G.I. Joe is set for August 7 (check the placement of this date mention….much easier to notice in such a sandwich, eh?). The first batch of bash-and-smash reviews should hit around August 1, give or take. Mark your calendars accordingly.
