In a way, this November’s 2012 feels like the film that director Roland Emmerich has been building up to throughout his entire CGI-dominated career. On par with Michael Bay, if not actually even more responsible, Emmerich has given audiences an endless stream of apocalyptic films, from Independence Day to The Day After Tomorrow. That piece-of-trash Godzilla reboot, too, but that was catastrophic for other reasons entirely. So for the guy to take on what philosophers and general crazies have deemed the legitimate “end of days,” the date of 12/21/2012 makes perfect sense. Who better to fictionalize what could be our final devastation than the man who has repeatedly profited from such calamity, only computer generated?
Does this new trailer for 2012 look good? About as good as you’d expect, if by “good” you’re adapting your thoughts into a mold of “cheap entertainment on a rainy Saturday afternoon.” On the plus side, the film sports a dynamite cast of talentswho should all know better but are still slumming it for an easy payday—-John Cusack, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Woody Harrelson. The car driving off of the plane’s wing is somewhat enjoyable to watch, too….
….Fuck it. Who am I kidding? I’m a sucker for high-priced bullshit of this caliber. I’ll be there, opening day, head hanging low. See the destruction-heavy trailer for yourselves, after the jump:
